Steel industry plays a major role in the economic development of the nation and is considered as an indicator of the economic progress. Post 2007-08, Indian steel industry has entered into a new development stage due to increased demand for steel in the country. According to World Steel Association, with 33% growth rate in the last 5 years, India stands 2nd among the top 5 steel producing nations.

India is the 4th largest producer of crude steel comprising of many public sector companies like Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) and private sector companies like Tata Steel, Essar Steel and JSW Steel. Highest demand of steel is from infrastructure sector which accounts to around 60% of total steel demand of the nation. At present, Indian steel industry employs over 500,000 people including technicians, mechanics, engineers, manager and senior management.

Career Opportunities:

India being the world's largest market after China, the demand for workforce in steel industry is ever rising. Large public and private sector companies in the industry produce enormous career opportunities - both for young graduates and for experienced professionals. Steel industry offers various job roles including core Engineering jobs, IT/Automation jobs, Sales/Marketing and other Managerial profiles.
